On June 19, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new campus of Nalanda University in Rajgir, Bihar, marking a pivotal moment in the resurrection of one of the world's oldest centers of learning. This university, a collaboration between India and East Asia Summit (EAS) nations, boasts a rich history. The original Nalanda University, founded in the 5th century AD, was a renowned beacon of knowledge, recognized as one of the world's earliest residential universities. Sadly, it was destroyed by the invader Bakhityar Khilji in the 12th century.
The new campus, sprawling over 450 acres, is a testament to sustainability. It stands as a 'Net Zero' Green Campus, self-sufficient with solar power, water treatment facilities, and a water recycling plant. The campus also boasts 100 acres of water bodies, reflecting a commitment to environmental responsibility.
